The design process which included input from residents at community meetings. Soon after, City Council approved funding for both the playground construction and a park restroom replacement project. The decision was made to combine these two projects as they were both funded in the same fiscal year and as a cost-savings measure to do both renovations concurrently.
The City awarded the construction contract to McGuire & Hester and work began in June of 2017. The project highlights include an expanded footprint of the play area, increased capacities in the restrooms, new pathways and improved entrance into the park, additional seating around the play area, poured in place rubber surfacing, upgraded ADA path up to Stadium Field, and enhanced play elements including an Oodle Swing, a tree house with a net-bridge connection and independent climbing and balancing features. The total project budget was $1.35M.
