Program Description

The Place for Recreation… Resources… Relationships. The San Carlos Adult Community Center is established as a day use recreation center for community members, ages 50 and over. The Center offers a variety of programs and services designed to promote health and wellness, enhance independence, promote lifelong learning and quality of life as well as strengthen community image and sense of place for senior community members.

Adult Community Center Hours

Open Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Responsibilities

  • Greet and direct participants/customers to appropriate resources
  • Answer telephone calls promptly and transfer calls to appropriate staff
  • Take messages for staff and volunteers
  • Make appointments for sign-ups and take class registrations
  • Sell tickets for lunch and special events
  • Keep up-to-date with the Center’s policies and procedures
  • Attend scheduled volunteer meetings
  • Represent the Center and the City of San Carlos in a positive fashion
  • Inform the incoming Receptionist of the day’s activities

Qualifications

  • Willingness to learn and use multi-line telephones, including transfer & voice mail
  • Ability to respond to multiple calls promptly by utilizing the "Hold" feature
  • Pleasant telephone mannerism and excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to utilize available resources
  • Positive attitude and excellent people skills
  • Ability to make correct change and handle money
  • Possess patience and strong sense of responsibility

Time Commitment

  • One day each week; minimum 6-month commitment
  • Shifts available: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Training Provided

  • Job orientation will be provided by Center staff
  • Volunteer meetings held at least once each year
