Building

The Building Division assists customers with the permitting process and procedures, reviews applications for compliance with local regulations and policies, as well as federal and state laws and codes. The division also conducts inspections and enforces the municipal code.


Building Permits

The Building Division processes new permit applications and issues approved permits electronically. Paper plans are not accepted. Please make all submittals digital. 

Contact our Building Division, at building@cityofsancarlos.org, to discuss submitting a new permit application or to get your permit issued once it has been approved. Issued permit cards and approved plans will all be provided digitally via email.

Once your permit is approved, you will receive an email with detailed steps on how to submit final payment and outstanding paperwork for permit issuance. For quickest results, please direct all questions and responses to the email address of our City staff who emailed you. Be sure to include the project address and permit number in your email communication.

Building Inspections

To schedule an inspection for an issued permit, please fill out and submit the online request form. Your inspection details will be confirmed via the email address you provide. The method of inspection (virtual, pictures, special inspection, etc.) will be determined by our Building Inspectors on a case-by-case basis.

Code Enforcement

Report a code enforcement issue that IS visible from the public right-of-way

  • Online: Report an issue online through the City’s service request application, Inform San Carlos.

Construction Noise Hours

Construction noise hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Construction work on Sunday and the following holidays is prohibited:

  • Presidents Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Juneteenth
  • Fourth of July
  • Labor Day
  • Veterans Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day
