Construction is underway and expected to be completed in August.

Background Information

A group of dedicated volunteer parents came together and enlisted the City of San Carlos, local businesses, community organizations and preschools to help dramatically improve the Burton Park Playgrounds. The Parks & Recreation Foundation of San Carlos has eagerly joined in the fundraising efforts.
The City has committed $415,000 from Capital Improvment Program (CIP) appropriations for this project. Thanks to the volunteer committee and the generosity of the San Carlos community and businesses, we are on our way to meeting this goal and only need
to raise another $49,456 to reach the goal of $850,000 for this project. The result of these community efforts will be a complete overhaul of the two existing Burton Park playgrounds as well as a new, fun water spray area. When completed, Burton Park will house the first fully inclusive playground in San Mateo County.

Here's how you can help:

Enhancing our City's flagship park is good for the entire community -- the children, parents and grandparents who will use it directly, as well as homeowners who will benefit from increased property value. It's a great investment to make for your community and for yourself.

  • Sponsor a Playground Feature. A variety of naming opportunities are available for playground features including play structures, play houses, landscaping, and shade structures. Legacy naming opportunities are also available for each playground area. Large donations can include payment options. For further information contact the Parks & Recreation Foundation at (650) 802-4317, www.prfsancarlos.org or Barry Weiss at bweiss@cityofsancarlos.org.
  • Gifts of Appreciated Property. With careful planning, charitable gifts of long-term appreciated securities or real estate can create very favorable tax benefits, such as the elimination of paying long-term capital gains tax and receiving an income tax charitable deduction.
  • Help Secure a Corporate Contribution or Grant. If your company has a grant program that would consider supporting this project, please help us apply. Contact Donna Becht at dbecht@cityofsancarlos.org or (650) 802-4319.
  • Donate. Tax-deductible donations of any amount are greatly appreciated. Please contact Barry Weiss at (650) 802-4317 or bweiss@cityofsancarlos.org for more information. Checks can be made payable to Parks & Recreation Foundation of San Carlos and sent to P.O. Box 191, San Carlos, CA 94070. All gifts are tax deductible and donors will receive a letter acknowledging the donation.

For more information, contact the San Carlos Parks and Recreation Department at 650-802-4286.

Thanks in advance for your help in making this park project a reality!
