Greater East San Carlos Neighborhood Slow Streets Pilot Project

637901956942170000The goals of the pilot project is to limit cut-through traffic, increase safety, slow traffic, and ensure any implemented solutions would not disproportionately impact some streets more than others.

Update: July 2023

The Greater East San Carlos Slow Streets Pilot Project has been implemented. Construction of the partial street closure bollards, Local Traffic Only signs, red curbs, and striping was completed on Friday, June 23rd. Staff will conduct an analysis within the next year to return to City Council with a recommendation on the improvements. Comments on the improvements maybe sent to Jana Cadiz jcadiz@cityofsancarlos.org

Construction: June 2023

The Greater East San Carlos Slow Streets Project will install high visibility crosswalk markings, partial street closures with bollards, and new no parking zones. Chrisp Co. has been awarded the project and is anticipated to start work June 12th. Notices to the neighborhood will be sent. In order to perform construction, temporary no parking signs will be posted around the work zone at least 48 hours prior to starting work. Construction is estimated to be complete by the end of the month.

City Council approved the Greater East San Carlos Neighborhood Slow Street Project plans and specifications and authorized call for bids.

City Council Meeting: September 12, 2022
Per the recommendation of GESC community members and City staff, the City Council directed staff to implement a Slow Street Pilot Program in the neighborhood. The Program will include strategic placement of pylons throughout the neighborhood, new signage, and street striping.

Community Meetings Round 2 -- Develop possible solutions
There will be two identical meetings. One will be in-person and one will be held on Zoom. This meeting will explore all the possible solutions and options for addressing the issues raised during the information gathering meetings.  City staff will present these solutions to the City Council for discussion and approval in late August or early September.

City Council Meeting: May 9, 2022

The Greater East San Carlos Neighborhood presented their request for partial street closures to City Council.  In addition, staff provided background and recommendations on the Potential Partial Street Closures of McCue Avenue, Montgomery Street, Cherry Street and Hall Street in the Greater East San Carlos Neighborhood.
