|Contact :||Jay Walter, Public Works Director, Public Works 650-802-4203|
|As a result of the successful partnership between the Cordilleras Avenue neighborhood and the City of San Carlos, on April 10, 2014 two new speed humps were installed on Cordilleras Avenue between San Carlos Avenue and Elizabeth Street. It is anticipated that striping and signs will be installed by the end of the month.|
Cordilleras Avenue is designated as one of the San Carlos School District's Walk and Roll to School Routes. Due to its designation, the lack of sidewalks, and concerns from the neighborhood, a traffic study was performed on the corridor. Both the Traffic and Circulation Commission and the City Council reviewed the study results, discussed potential solutions and received public comment. While the results of the study indicated no significant speeding in the area, City Council decided it best to slow traffic in the area and voted on February 24, 2014 to install the two speed humps.
The speed humps will allow for vehicles to travel the posted speed limit with minimal discomfort, will help calm traffic, and will increase safety along this important corridor.
