SAN CARLOS, CA, August 28, 2014 – Today, the City of San Carlos announced the expansion and extension of its smart parking deployment, instrumented by Streetline, Inc. Due to the success of the initial deployment in 2012, the City has decided to expand the footprint of the technology and extend the term to five years, offering an enhanced and long-term benefit to motorists, merchants, and the city as a whole.

“The real-time data the Streetline system provides has proven to be invaluable in terms of guidance for motorists and improved City visibility of parking usage,” said Lisa Costa Sanders, Principal Planner for the City of San Carlos. “By adding more sensors, we gain a more holistic view of our parking assets and are able to provide improved services for our constituents.”

Using in-ground sensors and a free consumer app from Streetline called Parker™, motorists can view real-time parking availability in downtown San Carlos. The deployment now spans Laurel Street, from San Carlos Ave. to Arroyo Ave., and San Carlos Ave., from Walnut St. to El Camino Real.

“Downtown San Carlos experiences a high volume of motorists during the lunch and dinner hours and a lack of parking guidance creates congestion, traffic, and motorist frustration,” said Zia Yusuf, President and CEO of Streetline, Inc. “By deploying a long term smart parking program along this important corridor, San Carlos residents and visitors are able to park their vehicles with ease, enjoy all the City has to offer, and foster a thriving and vibrant downtown community.”

Similar to the way in-car navigation systems direct drivers to their destination, the Parker app displays nearby parking options. With voice-guidance capability, motorists are safely and accurately guided to an available parking space.

Some additional features of Parker include:
• Real-time availability of select on-street parking spaces
• Hands-free voice navigation system that guides drivers to parking using an audible cue when available parking is nearby
• Ability to toggle between availability and price, including real-time updates as prices are changed or updated
• Easy access to rates, hours, and time limits for both on-street spaces (both metered and unmetered) and off-street parking facilities where available
• Ability to enter an address or search by points of interest including airports, universities, shopping centers, featured neighborhoods, transit, and hospitals
• The ability to enter an address within Parker and view parking options nearest to that destination.

Downtown San Carlos merchants can also reap the benefits of parking guidance with Streetline’s ParkerMap™. ParkerMap is a free map tool that can be embedded on any website and displays the same information that is seen in the mobile app, Parker—the real-time street availability as well as the static information for surrounding garages and lots. It serves as a useful communication tool for merchants to notify visitors to their website of the parking environment near their establishment.

“To stumble on parking in Downtown San Carlos, nearby my restaurant, can be challenging and I know that’s restrictive for some diners,” said Steven Salazar, owner of Sneakers Pub and Grill. “By imbedding ParkerMap on the Sneakers website, I can help show my customers, before they leave home, where they are most likely to locate a parking space.
