SAN CARLOS, CA, October 20, 2016 – The City of San Carlos has entered into an agreement to offer the National League of Cities Service Line Warranty Program to residents. This program is administered by Utility Service Partners (USP)/Service Line Warranties of America (SLWA).

The Service Line Warranty Program offers homeowners the option to purchase service line warranties that provide protection against the normal wear and tear of water, sewer and in-home plumbing lines, which is not covered under most traditional homeowner policies. Many factors contribute to the life expectancy of a line such as tree root intrusion, ground shifting, weather and age – all factors which are covered through the USP/SLWA warranty program. If lines break or leak, USP/SLWA will repair the line using local, licensed contractors who are familiar with local code and can ensure a timely response.

“While sewer and water line breaks do not happen frequently, when they do, they can be costly to repair,” said Public Works Director Jay Walter. “The City is pleased to be able to provide San Carlos homeowners with the option to purchase private warranty coverage for their service lines.”

The program provides up to $4,000 per incident for water/sewer line repair and up to $3,000 per incident for in-home plumbing repairs with no annual or lifetime limits, service fees or deductibles. Rates for the warranty programs are as follows:

Sewer $9.00/month, $103.00 annually

Water: $6.00/month, $67.00 annually

In-Home Plumbing: $6.50/month, $73.00 annually

SLWA will independently mail information on each of these programs to homeowners during three campaign cycles in the spring, summer and winter. The City of San Carlos does not receive any payment from USP/SLWA and no City funds are used in the marketing or administration of the program. For questions about this service, or to enroll, please contact USP/SLWA at 866-922-9006 or visit
