|Contact :||Jeff Maltbie, City Manager (650) 802-4228|
|March 10, 2017 – San Carlos, CA – Acting Parks & Recreation Director Amy Newby has been promoted to the position of Parks & Recreation Director. Amy has served the City of San Carlos for over six years as Recreation Supervisor where she was in charge of four divisions: Personal & Family Development, Youth Development, Athletics and Community Events. |
Amy grew up in Redwood City and graduated from Woodside High School before going on to earn her bachelor's degree from San Diego State University. She began working in Parks & Recreation as a summer camp leader in Redwood City and always remained in the field. During her free time, she enjoys being active and visiting parks with her young boys and playing recreational sports with friends.
Amy has been busy for the past year with the development of the Master Plan for North Crestview Park, the Highlands Park Playground and Restroom Renovation, the Eaton & Big Canyon Park Trail Wayfinding project, and operations at both the Adult Community Center and Youth Center.
Upon her appointment, City Manager Jeff Maltbie stated, "I am pleased to have officially appointed Amy Newby to the position of Parks and Recreation Director. Amy has spent the past 11 months working hard as the acting Director upon the retirement of Christine Boland. Amy’s professionalism, experience and enthusiasm for Parks and Recreation is matched by her dedication to the City of San Carlos. I am confident that Amy will do a great job leading her department and ensuring that San Carlos has great parks and high quality, affordable recreation programing now and into the future."
