Contact :Gareth Harris, Fire Marshal    (650) 780-7400

SAN CARLOS, CA, October 12, 2017 – San Carlos Fire Marshal Gareth Harris has identified a number of “Open Space” type parks in the city of San Carlos that are at risk from a wildfire due to the years of drought and current weather patterns in the area.

With the issuing of a Fire Weather and adjacent Red Flag warning in the SF Bay Area the following parks will be posted as Hazardous Fire Areas and open flames will be prohibited within any of the parks at all times:

ARGUELLO PARK

BIG CANYON PARK

EATON PARK TRAIL

VISTA PARK

CRESTVIEW PARK

NORTH CRESTVIEW PARK

HEATHER PARK, HEATHER DOG EXERCISE AREA

These parks shall be posted as “Hazardous Fire Areas” and smoking or fires of any kind including barbeques will be prohibited in these areas. These prohibitions will remain in force until significant wetting rain is received in the city of San Carlos.

Please be mindful of the fire hazard of our beautiful hill and open space areas as you enjoy and recreate in our city parks.

Residents are encouraged to visit the FIRE SAFE San Mateo county website at www.firesafesanmateo.org for information on defensible space and the PDF publication “Living with Fire in San Mateo County”

“We appreciate the cooperation of our city residents during this time of concern for our community and our state,” said Fire Marshal Gareth Harris, “but we don’t want to see the disastrous fires now taking place elsewhere in the bay area occur in our city.”
