San Carlos, CA – July 30, 2009 – The City of San Carlos announced that it has launched a Twitter feed at www.twitter.com/CityofSanCarlos.  This new service is part of the City's continuing efforts to distribute information about City services, events and programs to residents, businesses and all interested individuals in many formats.

Twitter has become one of the most popular social networking sites on the Internet.  San Carlos has linked their City Web Site to Twitter.  This will enable people who decide to "follow" the City of San Carlos on Twitter to track and be notified each time the City adds or updates the City’s Web Site at www.cityofsancarlos.org.

Residents who sign up to receive the City’s Twitter posts get short messages called “tweets” sent to their Twitter page.  Each “tweet” is up to 140 characters per message and provides a quick headline and web link to more detailed information on the topic.

The City’s Twitter pages can be accessed from a standard web browser such as Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome.  Free programs such as Power Twitter for Firefox and Twhirl enhance viewing the Tweets via the Internet.  Twitter users can also have these messages sent to them as text messages to their cell phone, allowing them to get the message no matter where they are.

To receive messages (“tweets”) from the City of San Carlos, a resident simply needs to visit www.twitter.com, create a free account, select “Find People” from the Twitter menu, search for CityofSanCarlos and then click on the “Follow” button on the CityofSanCarlos Twitter web site.
