SAN CARLOS, CA, October 4, 2013 - At 6:00PM on October 4th, 2013 the San Carlos City Council declared a State of Emergency, confirming the declaration of emergency made earlier in the day by the City Manager, after PG&E refused the City's request to voluntarily shut down their natural gas transmission line 147. San Carlos Council Members adopted a Resolution requesting that PG&E shut down Line 147 until such time as the pipeline could be investigated and determined safe. No PG&E representative attended the meeting to speak in defense of the utility.

Shortly before the Council meeting, the City was successful in obtaining a Temporary Injunction against PG&E in San Mateo County Superior Court, signed by Judge George Marian, which requires PG&E to immediately shut off service to pipeline 147 in the City of San Carlos. A hearing has been scheduled for October 24, 2013 at 2:00 PM to hear both parties on the matter.

The City earlier requested that PG&E shut off Line 147, and PG&E initially declined to do so. Through the work of US Representative Jackie Speier, and representatives of the CPUC, PG&E has now agreed to immediately lower the operating pressure of Line 147 by 20%, while the issue is discussed and considered by the Courts.

The City fully expects PG&E to comply with the Court Order to shut down Line 147 as a sign that they are concerned about public safety and the pipeline issues raised by the City.
