Which Runs the Length of San Carlos

SAN CARLOS, CA, November 27, 2013 –  The City was notified today that Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) line 147 will be put back into service this coming Monday, December 2nd, at a not to exceed pressure of 125 psi, which is a significantly reduced pressure from the 300 psi that it was running prior to the City's discovery that PG&E engineering staff had questions about the line’s safety. PG&E is doing this in accordance with an order issued October 21, 2013 by Administrative Law Judge Maribeth Bushey. According to PG&E, this is being done to meet expected service demand in the coming months.

Last month the City hired engineering expert Dr. Glen Stevick to run tests and analyze data about Line 147. While his work is still ongoing, preliminary findings indicate that it is safe to operate the line up to 220 psi. City Manager Jeff Maltbie stated, "Given the reduced pressure, we are not overly concerned as of now with this change; however, we continue to work through the CPUC for more permanent safety reforms for Line 147."
