|Subject :||PG&E Finds Defects in Natural Gas Line 147|
|Contact :||Jeff Maltbie, City Manager (650) 802-4228|
|SAN CARLOS, CA, May 7, 2015 – Yesterday afternoon, the City of San Carlos and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) received notice from Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) that during the retrofit work currently being conducted on Natural Gas Line 147 in San Carlos, two defects were discovered in the pipe on May 5th. PG&E reports that it responded by reducing the pressure from 279 pounds per square inch gauge (psig) to 165 psig while it investigates what appears to be bulges in the pipe. PG&E also assured the City that it had already planned to replace these sections of pipe as part of the retrofit work. However, to ensure the safety of the community, the pressure was reduced immediately while the work continues. |
Upon learning of the defects and PG&E's actions, Mayor Ron Collins stated, "We appreciate that PG&E contacted us promptly about the problems found with Line 147 and that it took steps to reduce the risks to the community by lowering the pressure. We continue to hold PG&E accountable for the safety of Line 147 and expect that it will expediently rectify this and any additional problems found."
PG&E assured the City that it will continue to keep the City informed of any issues found as it retrofits Line 147 so that inline inspection can resume as soon as possible.
