PG&E Natural Gas Line 147 Safety Remains in Question
Contact :Jeff Maltbie, City Manager    (650) 802-4228
SAN CARLOS, CA, May 19, 2015 – The damaged section of the pipe recently removed from Natural Gas Line 147 in San Carlos arrived in Houston, Texas for testing on Monday. Pressure testing of this pipe segment will determine if it is safe to operate the line at a higher pressure to allow for inline inspection of the line to proceed as planned. As of today, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is maintaining the pressure at less than 110 pounds per square inch gauge (psig) until the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) authorizes an increase. Some retrofit work will continue on the line in preparation for the inline testing to move forward when authorized.

City Manager Jeff Maltbie stated, "We appreciate that PG&E is operating Line 147 at a low pressure until more can be learned from the testing of the pipe segment. We hope it is determined to be safe and that the inline inspection of Line 147 can proceed."
