The 2008 edition of San Carlos Hometown Days: Homespun Fun at Hometown Days will be held on May 16-17-18 this year at Burton Park. This is a uniquely San Carlos tradition that features a parade on Saturday, May 17th as well as entertainment and fun for the entire family.

The Bay Area's Bike to Work Day is Thursday, May 15th and the City of San Carlos will be participating by hosting an Energizer Station at the San Carlos Train Depot from 7:00am to 9:00am.
Hop on your bike and encourage your friends to do the same. Then stop by for coffee and treats as well as a tote bag stuffed with useful biking information and helpful bicycling items (while supplies last). Plus, we will have lots of information to give you to simplify your daily commute!

On Tuesday, March 18, 2008, the City Council and City Department Heads met at the San Carlos Library Conference Room in their 5th Strategic Planning Retreat.
At the retreat, this group of City Leaders reviewed the City Vision Statement, updated the City's 3 Year Strategic Goals and developed 3 to 5 Strategic Objectives for each of the Goals that will move the City towards attaining these Strategic Objectives. New to the document is the goal to "Plan for and implement long-term financial sustainability."

The South Bayside Waste Management Authority (SBWMA) has received four proposals in response to its Request for Proposals (RFP) released on November 1st for franchised collection services for solid waste, recyclables and organics. The current franchise agreement is held by Allied Waste Services of San Mateo County and expires on December 31, 2010.
The proposals start an evaluation and selection process which will culminate in the roll out of dramatically expanded and more convenient recycling and organics (plant materials and food scraps) collection programs for residents. The new services will start in 2011 and will include wheeled carts for weekly collection of solid waste, recyclables, and organics.
