  Community Emergency Response Team

(CERT) Program

Emergency preparedness is everyone's responsibility - and the City's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program is a great way for neighbors to join together and prepare for potential disaster such as earthquake, major fire, or flood.

The CERT program educates you and your neighbors about how you can best prepare your household, family, and neighborhood, and how to respond during the aftermath of a disaster that impacts your neighborhood. It provides community members with training in basic disaster response skills including:

  • Fire safety
  • Light search and rescue
  • Team organization
  • Disaster medical operations

A disaster can strike quickly and without warning. Your family and neighborhood may be without basic services like water, gas, electricity, and telephones, or access to stores and other services for several hours or days.

While public safety personnel will be on the scene after a disaster, they cannot reach everyone right away. Using the skills learned in the classroom and during hands-on training exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following a disaster, when professional responders are not immediately available to help.

Are You Ready…

Group, Club, Business, Home Owners Association, Neighborhood or Team.

Schedule a FREE class today.

In an effort to better prepare our community for potential disasters, the Fire Department will be conducting free “Are You Ready” training classes.  This two hour presentation will provide valuable information on topics such as:

  • Creating a family/office disaster plan
  • Assembling home/office and portable disaster supply kit
  • Sheltering in place
  • Evacuation procedures
  • Preparing for and responding to specific disasters

Since we can only do our best to prevent man-made disasters and terrorism, and since we certainly can't control "mother-nature", it's only a matter of time before a minor or major incident occurs in or around our immediate area.  When a disaster happens and Police, Fire and Emergency Services are overwhelmed, will you be prepared to care for yourself, family, friends and neighbors?

In all places, home, work or school, it pays to be ready and prepared to deal with all types of natural and man-made disasters. Here on the Peninsula, we are subject to power outages, earthquakes, fires, floods, severe storms, extreme heat, gas leaks, plane crashes, disease and/or flu pandemics, and a host of other possible situations. The potential for an act of terror adds yet another dimension to disaster awareness and preparedness.

Training is offered at the Fire Station or at your location, to neighborhoods, schools, businesses, and community groups of 20 or more.

Get Ready! Let us show you how!

Now is the time to schedule a FREE presentation for your group of 20 or more! Please contact Redwood City Fire Department Emergency Preparedness Outreach Coordinator Christy Adonis at (650) 780-5790 or cadonis@redwoodcity.org
