Subject: Proposal for Contract Fire & Emergency Services from City of San Mateo

This afternoon the City received a proposal that would provide Fire and Emergency Services to the City of San Carlos from the City of San Mateo. In speaking with San Mateo Fire Chief Dan Belville, the document should be considered to be a preliminary analysis of how the San Mateo Fire Department would provide such services in San Carlos.

The proposal assumes that the City of San Mateo would hire a number of existing BSCFD employees and these employees would become employees of San Mateo. It also provides for two Fire Engine Companies at the existing fire stations located in San Carlos along with Aerial Truck service from San Mateo Truck Company 21.

I reviewed the process that San Carlos plans to take in obtaining and reviewing potential Contract Fire Service proposals from neighboring agencies with Chief Belville. This includes receiving informal proposals, such as this one, and working to develop a more formal Request for Proposal (RFP) process for Contract Fire Services this summer.

As always, feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this initial proposal from the City of San Mateo and our work in this area as we continue to explore Fire and Emergency Service delivery options for the City of San Carlos.
