Program Description:
The San Carlos Youth Center offers an organic garden program that is maintained and harvested by Youth Center Afterschool Drop-In Program participants and staff. This unique element of the center allows participants to get hands on experience while learning the responsibilities of sustaining a raised bed vegetable garden with pesticide-free and organic practices. The garden program runs from mid March to early November. 

Youth Center Hours:
o School Year: 
        o Monday-Friday: 3 pm to 7 pm* 
        o Wednesdays: 1 pm to 7 pm* 
o Summer: 
        o Monday-Friday: 9 am to 7 pm 
*Volunteer may be able to work during morning hours on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays depending on staff schedule and availability.

Responsibilities:
Include but not limited to:
• Weeding
• Shoveling
• Watering
• Planting
• Cleaning, Maintenance and Organization of Equipment
• Soil Removal and Replacement

Qualifications:
• Ability to perform continuous physical labor
• Responsible, friendly and open-minded
• Ability to engage with a variety of youth
• Willingness to follow instructions and work under the direction of Youth Center Staff and Volunteer Coordinator.

Time Commitment:
o 2-3 days each week
o Shifts available: 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (school year); Flexible for summer

Training Provided:
• On site orientation provided by Youth Center Staff
