Why Take the Time?

The focus of this program is to explain the objectives of mandatory recycling, to hear your concerns from a business perspective and to engage your help to develop a collaborative solution in San Carlos.  Since over two-thirds of all garbage generated comes from businesses, the commercial sector has been identified as a key greenhouse gas contributor.

The California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (AB 32) is likely to propel the adoption of commercial recycling ordinances throughout California. Regulations proposed by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) are likely to require a Mandatory Recycling for Commercial Businesses program throughout the State starting in January 2011.

San Carlos is working with the South Bayside Waste Management Authority (SBWMA) as a pilot city to develop a local version of a mandatory recycling program for Commercial Businesses.  The program could be coordinated with the roll-out of the new Single Stream Solid Waste (Garbage Pick-up and Recycling) services in 2011 and the “recycling blitz” for Commercial Businesses that is scheduled for next summer (June/July 2010).

What’s in it for you?

  • Most businesses that have switched to recycling find significant savings for their businesses, both small and large.
  • Attend this meeting to have a chance to be part of the planning, to say what is important and what is realistic for your business
  • Ask questions from the experts so you can begin effectively with the least impact on your business
  • What incentives do you need to get going?

RSVP Requested by Friday, August 21 to Tracie Bills, SBWMA at tobills@rethinkwaste.org or (650) 802-3503 (to ensure that plenty of seats and food are available).
