Background
The City of San Carlos is one of 41 participating agencies in the Wireless Silicon Valley project. This project will bring a Wireless Broadband Network to residents and businesses in all of these areas including every City in both San Mateo and Santa Clara counties as well as parts of Alameda and Santa Cruz counties.
Phase 0 - Concept City and Proof of Concept (POC)
As a prelude to building the actual Wireless Silicon Valley network, the project vendor team (Silicon Valley Metro Connect), will be working with two or more "Concept Cities" on an initial deployment of this technology in a Phase 0, Proof of Concept program. The City of San Carlos has been selected to be the first Concept City in San Mateo County for this work. The City has approved and signed the letter agreement for this project phase. (A similar proposal to make Palo Alto a Concept City in Santa Clara County is pending review and approval in that community.)
Concept City Area in San Carlos
A one square mile area that is roughly bounded by Holly Street, Industrial Road, Howard Avenue and Oakhurst Avenue and includes several key City and Community Sites (City Hall, Burton Park, Youth Center, Laureola Park, Fire Station # 13) will host this Wireless Network in San Carlos. (See map of Concept City Area linked below)
Initially the network will be used to develop a "template" for deploying this system throughout Silicon Valley. In later phases of the Concept City work, the City and Wireless Silicon Valley agencies will conduct tests in this area. Some residents and businesses may also be called upon to volunteer to test the network before it goes into production later this year.
