Issuance of a Request for Proposals (RFP)
On October 18, 2010, the City Council voted to authorize issuance of a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the provision of Fire & Emergency Services in San Carlos starting in October after the end of service from the Belmont-San Carlos Fire Department (BSCFD).

Extension of RFP Deadline & Results of County Supervisors Committee Fire Study

Prior to the RFP due date in December, the City received requests to extend the RFP deadline from the City of San Mateo and Cal Fire.  The City Council approved an extension of the RFP deadline to January 7, 2011 at 5:00 p.m.

A second extension of the RFP due date to April 1, 2011 was approved by the City Council after a request from the County Board of Supervisors Finance & Operations Committee.  This was given to allow the F&O Committee an opportunity to explore an "apples to apples" comparison of the cost of providing Fire & EMS services by both the Redwood City/San Mateo group and Cal Fire.  Copies of the results of these two F&O Committee inquiries are shown below:

Responses to the RFP

The City of San Carlos is currently considering two options to the future provision of Fire & Emergency Services.  They are the return of a Standalone City Fire Department using a proposal being developed by the City of San Carlos staff and contracting for Fire and Emergency Services with the City of Redwood City.  Click on the links below to read the proposal for Fire & Emergency Services from the City of Redwood City.
