Parks & Recreation

The Parks and Recreation Department "Creates Community through People, Parks and Programs." Our programs, services and facilities are designed to strengthen community image and sense of place, support economic development, strengthen safety and security, promote health and wellness, foster human development, increase cultural unity, protect environmental resources, facilitate community problem solving and provide recreational experiences.
Big Changes for Burton ParkPlans are underway to renovate the Burton Park playgrounds, but we need your help to make it a reality. A group of dedicated volunteer parents came together and enlisted the City of San Carlos, local businesses, community organizations and preschools to help dramatically improve the Burton Park Playgrounds. The City contributed the initial $365,000, but another $450,000 is needed to transform our park. Thanks to the volunteer committee and the generosity of the San Carlos community, we are on our way to meeting this goal. The Parks & Recreation Foundation of San Carlos has eagerly joined in the fundraising efforts.
The result of these community efforts will be a complete overhaul of the two existing Burton Park playgrounds as well as a new, fun water spray area. When completed in Spring 2008, Burton Park will house the first fully inclusive playground in San Mateo County (click here to see the current playground plans).
Enhancing our City's flagship park is good for the entire community -- the children, parents and grandparents who will use it directly, as well as homeowners who will benefit from increased property value. It's a great investment to make for your community and for yourself.

Master Plan for Parks, Open Space, Buildings, and Other Recreational Facilities
The City of San Carlos is embarking upon the preparation of its first-ever master plan for all of its parks, open space areas, buildings, and other recreational facilities. The planning process will include numerous opportunities for the community to take part, through public meetings, workshops, focus groups, stakeholder interviews, website outreach, and a scientifically valid telephone survey. We encourage you to participate in planning for the future. Please visit the website www.cityofsancarlos.org/ParksMasterPlan to learn more and give us your input. |
