We are forming a small group to discuss the proposal to install synthetic turf at Highlands Park Athletic Field and synthetic turf & ball field lighting at Heather School athletic field. The group will consist of two representatives each from the Heather School neighborhood, the Highlands Park neighborhood, and the Athletic Sites Advisory Council (ASAC). Additionally, a Parks and Recreation Commissioner, the School District Business Manager and staff will attend.

At the suggestion of one of the Heather School neighborhood representatives, meetings will be facilitated by in independent facilitator. We will be using the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center.

The initial goal is to get grass roots input in a dispassionate environment looking for a collaborative solution. Proposed objectives would be:

1. Clearly identify the key issue (s) of each group. This would include recognition and respect for the others issues/concerns.
2. Agree on data
3. Plan a successful neighborhood meeting,
The group as a whole, of course, will confirm or refine these goals and objectives.

Staff will update the School Board at their June 24 meeting. This will be an update only with no recommendation or proposal. Currently, no other presentations are scheduled before the School Board, Parks and Recreation Commission or City Council.
