Program Description
The San Carlos Parks & Recreation Athletics unit promotes health and wellness, reduces stress, fosters youth development, facilitates community problem solving, and supports economic development. This unit also facilitates Field, Tennis Court, and Gymnasium permits. The City seeks interested volunteers to coach teams in the Youth Basketball League, which runs from December through March.
Hours
December - March. Flexible; generally late afternoons and evenings, some Saturdays
Responsibilities
- Teach life skills and basketball skills
- Instill sportsmanship
- Promote comfortable learning environment through participation
- Help participants develop a respect for health and wellness benefits of team sports
- Promote working with others in a team approach
- Possess problem solving skills
- Attend coaches meeting(s) or workshop(s) as scheduled
Qualifications
- Comfort with own skill level to teach others
- Possess sufficient mastery of the game relative to the level coached
- Experience with interacting with children in a recreation environment
- Possess training through a nationally recognized youth sports coaching program
Time Commitment
- 3-5 hours per week for supervision and coaching at practices and/or games
