What can I do about them? | | | | | | How do I report graffiti that I have seen in San Carlos? As a community, we need to deal with graffiti as soon as it appears. The only way to discourage graffiti is to paint it out immediately. Most people associate graffiti with the general decline of an area, even if it is untrue. San Carlos merchants may lose business because potential customers feel that the area is unsafe. If you notice graffiti on city-owned property, call the Police Department Graffiti Hotline at (650) 594-2555. The city's Redevelopment Agency provides funds to assist business property owners to cover the cost to paint over graffiti. The Police Department administers this effort.

What can I do about it?In the City of San Carlos, the Building Department has the code enforcement responsibility. One of San Carlos' highest priorities is to preserve and maintain our neighborhoods. A strong code enforcement program has been shown to reduce crime and increase property values. The following list includes some general property maintenance items that are prohibited in San Carlos. (This is not meant to be a complete list.)
- Overgrown grass, weeds, and vegetation
- Trash visible from the public right-of-way
- Broken appliances, furniture, boxes, empty cartons, toys
- Discarded building materials
- Trash cans stored so they are visible from the public right-of-way
- Clotheslines in front yards
- Inoperable vehicles in the front yard
To report potential violations, call the Code Enforcement Division at (650) 802-4261.
| | | | My street has beat-up cars parked on it that never seem to be used. What can I do about them?San Carlos has an ordinance requiring that vehicles within the city must be moved every 72 hours (three days) at least two-tenths of a mile. Only currently registered and fully operable vehicles (cars, boats, etc.) may legally be parked on the street. For more detailed information, see the Parking section.
