Yes, the San Mateo County Genealogical Society is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization that teaches people about genealogy and helps them research their family lines. You may visit the San Carlos History Museum at 533 Laurel St. and speak with the docents. The San Carlos Library, 610 Elm St., has a collection of San Carlos history-related reference material, books, and pamphlets that you may check out. Two books to start with are "Through the Years in San Carlos," by Effie Mahany in 1967, and "San Carlos Stories: An Oral History for the City of Good Living," by Linda W. Garvey in 2000. Copies of the Mahany book are available through the Friends of the San Carlos Library at their bookstore in the library (610 Chestnut St.).
