Who do I contact regarding over active Mosquito population in the area?
San Mateo County Mosquito Abatement Department  should be contacted. If a Creek is adjacent to the owner's property, it will be the owner's responsibility to contact the County. The City of San Carlos is only responsible for under roadways and storm pipe systems.

If you are experiencing problems with mosquitoes or yellowjackets in your area, would like to receive mosquitofish, would like to have your property surveyed for mosquito breeding sources, or need an insect specimen identified, please call the San Mateo County at (650) 344-8592 and have the following information ready:

  • Name
  • Daytime phone number
  • Street address and cross street
  • Nature of the call (mosquitoes, mosquitofish, yellowjackets, insect identification)

In addition, it would be helpful to provide the following information:

Mosquitoes: ·

  • Time of day (morning, afternoon, evening) you are bitten
  • Location (inside or outside) you are bitten
  • Sample of the mosquito (dead or alive, but intact in a small container)

You need not be home in order to have your property surveyed or treated for mosquitoes. If there is street access to your yard, please indicate this as well as any obstacles (locked gates, dogs, etc.).
