Does San Carlos have a community swimming pool?
No, not at this time. The Community Swimming Pool Subcommittee (part of the city's Quality of Life Committee) has been tasked by the San Carlos City Council to research the issue of a community pool. For more information or to get involved with the Swimming Pool Subcommittee, contact Parks and Recreation at (650) 802-4421.

Swim classes and open swim days at Carlmont High School are held during the summer months and are supervised by the Belmont Parks and Recreation Department. Call the Belmont Parks and Recreation Department at (650) 595-7441.

Does San Carlos have a skateboard park?
Not at the present time. For more information, call the Parks and Recreation Department, Youth Development Unit at (650) 802-4771.

Does San Carlos have an ice skating rink?

No, the nearest ice skating rink is Belmont Iceland, located at 815 Old County Rd. near Masonic Way in Belmont. The hours vary due to hockey, skating classes and various special events, so call before you go at (650) 592-0533. In general, the rink is open Monday through Friday mornings, Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and Saturday evenings.  Their Friday Evening Public Session from 5:30p-7:45p is $5 including skate rental.

There are 5 easy ways to register:

  1. RecConnect Internet Registration - www.RecConnect.net
    You need to have a Family account established prior to be able to do online registration.  If you don't have one yet, please call the office at 650.802.4382 to get your Family account set up.  If you already have an account, use your Family Barcode and Pin assigned numbers to log in.  If you have forgotten your numbers, you may either call the office or there is a "Remind Me" feature in RecConnect that you can click on and an email will be sent to you with your login information.
  2. Mail-in to Parks & Recreation Registration, 600 Elm Street, San Carlos, CA  94070
  3. Fax-in to 650.595.6708 - 24 hrs a day
  4. Drop off at the Recreation office - 600 Elm Street, Parks & Recreation, 2nd Floor, San Carlos, CA  94070
  5. Walk in at the following locations:
    a.  Recreation office at 600 Elm Street, San Carlos
    b.  Youth Center at 1001 Chestnut Street, San Carlos
    c.  Adult Community Center (ACC) or Senior Center at 601  Chesnut Street (corner of Chestnut and San Carlos Avenue)
  • San Carlos resident registrations are given priority registration time a week before non-residents.  It is also processed in the order received.  
  • Non-resident registrations open the following week thereafter.  
  • Check, cash, or credit cards (Visa and MasterCard only) are accepted.

How many tennis courts are in San Carlos? Must I make a reservation to play?
San Carlos has a total of 12 public courts: three at Burton Park, four at Arguello Park, and five at Highlands Park. All court use is free and open to the public on a first-come, first-serve basis, except where special permitted group use takes precedence

When and where are the San Carlos Children's Theater performances?
The San Carlos Children’s Theater is an integral part of the San Carlos community. Run by community volunteers and theatrical staff, the San Carlos Children’s Theater (SCCT) conducts classes and workshops throughout the year. They perform four or five major productions at local schools sites. Local youth participate as actors, crew members, and creative teams. For more information on the SCCT, call (650) 594-2730.

When and where is the San Carlos Art and Wine Faire?
The San Carlos Chamber of Commerce hosts an Art and Wine Faire the 2nd weekend every October. Held in the first three blocks of downtown on Laurel Street (600-700-800 blocks) and San Carlos Avenue, the event features art and crafts juried by the Pacific Fine Arts as well as by local artists and craftspeople. San Carlos residents, Chamber members, businesses, vendors, and sponsors participate in the two-day event, attended by more than 75,000 people. A variety of gourmet food, beverages and toe-tapping music adds to the festive atmosphere. The next "faire" will be Oct. 11-12, 2008. When is the Week of the Family?

When, where and what is the Chicken's Ball?
Every other year, the San Carlos community rallies its talented singers, dancers and actors to put on a fund-raising event for the San Carlos Schools called "Chickens' Ball".

The "Chickens' Ball" is a truly enjoyable event for the whole family. Tickets for the Chickens' Ball regularly sell-out, so watch for the notice of their availability and be sure to order early.

When, where, and what are Hometown Days? What is it?
Hometown Days is put on by a group of dedicated volunteers to promote a sense of community spirit in San Carlos.  This annual event is traditionally held at Burton Park the third weekend in May.)  Besides bringing the community together, the event provides an opportunity for local schools, service clubs, and other organizations to do fundraising. A parade through downtown kicks off a festival at Burton Park, where families enjoy games, good food (including a Rotary Club Fun Run and pancake breakfast and a Kiwanis Club evening barbecue), local arts and crafts, entertainment, wine-tasting, and a beer garden. Information booths represent local businesses and non-profit organizations. Where can I get information about recreation classes offered by San Carlos?

  • The San Carlos Parks and Recreation Department publishes an Activity Guide in the Winter (Jan-Mar), Spring/Summer (Apr-Aug), and Fall (Sep-Dec). 
  • A copy of the guide is mailed to all San Carlos residents.
