A copy of the guide is mailed to all San Carlos residents. Current copies are also available at the Parks and Recreation main office at Burton Park, the Youth Center, Laureola Community Center, the Senior Center, City Hall, and the San Carlos Library. You may also view and print the Activity Guide from http://www.cityofsancarlos.org. In addition to a preschool program and after-school sports activities, there are classes in tennis, dance, crafts, cooking, fitness, sports, health, and special interest classes for every age group from tots to seniors.
| | | | When and where do I register for classes?You may register by mail, fax, Internet or walk-in, beginning with the delivery of the Activity Guide. San Carlos residents are processed in the order received; non-resident registrations are held for a short time before being processed. You may also register in person at the Parks and Recreation main office at Burton Park until the classes begin. Check, cash, or credit cards (Visa and MasterCard only) are accepted. | | | | When and where is the San Carlos Art and Wine Faire?The San Carlos Chamber of Commerce hosts an Art and Wine Faire one weekend every October. Held in the first three blocks of downtown Laurel Street (600-700-800 blocks), the event features art and crafts juried by the Pacific Fine Arts as well as by local artists and craftspeople. San Carlos residents, Chamber members, businesses, vendors, and sponsors participate in the two-day event, attended by more than 75,000 people. A variety of gourmet food, beverages and toe-tapping music adds to the festive atmosphere. The next "faire" will be Oct. 12-13, 2002. | | | | When, where, and what are Hometown Days? What is it?Hometown Days is put on by a group of dedicated volunteers to promote a sense of community spirit in San Carlos. The 26nd Hometown Days celebration will be May, 2007. (This annual event is traditionally held at Burton Park the third weekend in May.) Besides bringing the community together, the event provides an opportunity for local schools, service clubs, and other organizations to do fundraising. A parade through downtown kicks off a festival at Burton Park, where families enjoy games, good food (including a Rotary Club Fun Run and pancake breakfast and a Kiwanis Club evening barbecue), local arts and crafts, entertainment, wine-tasting, and a beer garden. Information booths represent local businesses and non-profit organizations. | | | | When, where and what is the Chicken's Ball?Every other year, the San Carlos community rallies its talented singers, dancers and actors to put on a fund-raising event for the San Carlos Schools called "Chickens' Ball".
The "Chickens' Ball" is a truly enjoyable event for the whole family. Tickets for the Chickens' Ball regularly sell-out, so watch for the notice of their availability and be sure to order early.

| | | | When, where and what is the Kiwanis Show?Every other year, the San Carlo Kiwanis Club sponsors a production that involves singers, dancers, and actors from the whole community. The Kiwanis Show is an enjoyable event for the entire family. The next production will be held at in April 2007. The location of this years show will not be in Central School, due to the remodeling of the Multi-purpose room. This year the show will be held in the Woodside High School Performing Arts Center. The Week of the Family brings a series of family- and community-oriented events hosted by local community and non-profit groups. | | | | When and where are the San Carlos Children's Theater performances?The San Carlos Children’s Theater is an integral part of the San Carlos community. Run by community volunteers and theatrical staff, the San Carlos Children’s Theater (SCCT) conducts classes and workshops throughout the year. | | | | Does San Carlos have an ice skating rink?No, the nearest ice skating rink is Belmont Iceland, located at 815 Old County Rd. near Masonic Way in Belmont. The hours vary due to hockey and various special events, so call before you go, call (650) 592-0532. In general, the rink is open Monday through Friday mornings, Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and Saturday evenings. Admission is $5 for kids during morning and afternoon open skate sessions; $6 during evening sessions, and $6 for adults anytime; skate rentals are $3.
| | | | Does San Carlos have a community swimming pool?No, not at this time. The Community Swimming Pool Subcommittee (part of the city's Quality of Life Committee) has been tasked by the San Carlos City Council to research the issue of a community pool. Swim classes and open swim days at Carlmont High School are held during the summer months and are supervised by the Belmont Parks and Recreation Department. Call the Belmont Parks and Recreation Department at (650) 595-7441.

Must I make a reservation to play?San Carlos has a total of 12 public courts: three at Burton Park, four at Arguello Park, and five at Highlands Park. All court use is free and open to the public on a first-come, first-serve basis. The courts are lit until 10 p.m. seven days a week. Parks and Recreation Department offers a full schedule of lessons for youth and adults at the Burton courts. Call (650) 802-4382 for more information.
