How are traffic lights and street light problems reported and to whom?
The City contracts with Republic Electric to handle City traffic signal and street light problems. Any resident can reach them directly at 1-800-LIGHTS-ON or (1-800-544-4876) to report the problem. You may also call Public Works Department at (650) 802-4204.
When calling in to report issues, street lamp poles typically have pole numbers that consist of 5 digits. (which is about 10 feet up on the pole) It would be extremely helpful if residents can ensure they have the following information when calling it in.

- Street Address
- Nearest Cross Street
- Original caller’s name and phone number, if possible
My street is in terrible condition. How do I get it fixed?
The Public Works Department has a five-year plan for repairing streets in the city, based on how the "PCI" (Pavement Condition Index) of your street compares to other streets in the city. To find out where your street falls on the list or to see if it is not on the current five-year plan for repair, call the Public Works Department at (650) 802-4203. If there are dangerous holes or other hazards on the street, be sure to report those separately at (650) 802-4140.
There is broken glass or some kind of spill or hazard on the street. Who do I call about it?
Call the General Services Department at (650) 802-4140. They will assess the hazard and take appropriate action. If this debris is causing an immediate danger to vehicle or pedestrian traffic, contact the Police Department at (650) 802-4277.
Whom do I call about a downed power line?
Treat any downed power line as if it is "live." Do not touch or try to move any wires. Keep all children and animals away from the lines. Report the situation immediately to PG&E at 800-743-5000 and call 911 to have trained emergency personnel safely contain the area.
