Is there anything I can do about it?You can make a traffic suggestion to the Police Department at (650) 802-4246 and the Public Works Department at (650) 802-4202. If your suggestion requires review by the San Carlos Traffic Commission, the Public Works director will place the item on the Traffic Commission agenda for review and discussion. The commission meetings are open to the public, and you will be invited to attend. For more information, call (650) 802-4202.
| | | | What should I do if I see speeding vehicles on my street? You can call the San Carlos Police Department at (650) 802-4277 and report your traffic concerns. The police can set up the radar trailer to remind drivers to reduce their speed. They can also have officers in the area to cite offenders. Remember: an officer must witness an infraction to write a ticket for it.
| | | | I'm so sick of the traffic in this city; isn't there anything we can do about it?There are a number of alternatives that you might want to consider instead of getting in your car every day and sitting in freeway traffic:
- Caltrain: Avoid the Highway 101 traffic between San Francisco and San Jose (see Trains).
- SamTrans: Check out the network of frequent express and local services (see Buses).
- Carpooling: Call the Rideshare Agency at 1-800-755-7665 for a free match list of potential carpool or vanpool partners.
- Bicycling: A great way to exercise and to get to work!
- Telecommuting: Any chance that your employer will let you work from home?
The city has commissioned several traffic studies to determine what can be done to reduce and/or improve traffic flow to, from, and within the community. These studies include the traffic counts at 32 major city intersections, the impact upon existing and new development (i.e., commercial, retail, industrial and housing) and physical and administrative changes that may be considered to improve current and projected conditions.
| | | | Where can I get car pool help/information?You can save thousands of dollars a year by carpooling. To see if there are matches of existing carpools or individuals looking for a carpool, call 800-755-7665. Carpooling is very flexible--you can carpool every day, or once a week, or whatever meets your needs. When you carpool, you may also use the diamond lanes and pass the tollbooths and freeway congestion throughout the Bay Area.
