| | Alternative Analysis Process - High Speed Rail
What is an Alternatives Analysis? Studies have started on the potential of a California High Speed Rail system that would link the Bay Area with Southern California. From the start of this project, the City of San Carlos staff is working with the Peninsula Rail Program (a joint effort between Caltrain and the California High Speed Rail Authority) and their staff members, designers and engineers on the project's Alternative Analysis.
An Alternatives Analysis is a study of potential project designs and alternatives. It is done as an early step in the environmental review of a project and is a prelude to the preparation of a Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR).
The High Speed Rail Alternatives Analysis Process in San Carlos In the case of High Speed Rail, San Carlos has held meetings and community workshops in 2009 and 2010 on the proposed project to obtain community input and feedback. The City has also asked the High Speed Rail project staff to explore a number of different potential approaches to building the route through San Carlos that include above ground, under ground and stacked designs.
Documents on the Alternatives Analysis Process In addition to the work in San Carlos, the Peninsula Rail Program and the California High Speed Rail Authority have also released some initial reports and analysis on the project. They include documents on the High Speed Rail workshops and meetings held in this area, City comment letters and the Alternatives Analysis documents and supplemental Alternative Analysis.
Of particular interest to residents and businesses following this proposed project, each edition of the Alternatives Analysis discusses the various design approaches to the proposed High Speed Rail route from San Jose to San Francisco. It also discusses the design opportunities and challenges of each approach and lists which of these options will be moving forward in the process. A copy of these documents and an overview of each is linked below:
