On Monday, December 14, 2009, the California High Speed Rail Authority released an updated Business Plan and a Report to the State Legislature. 

This report discusses a number of key aspects of the project including a description of project funding, estimates of ridership and projected system fares and a proposed construction schedule for the Anaheim to San Francisco phase of the project which includes San Carlos and the Peninsula. 

The report also includes an updated estimate of project costs and includes funding for a portion of the High Speed Rail system to be constructed underground along the Peninsula and a portion to be constructed overhead. 

In San Carlos, the City has requested the High Speed Rail Authority engineers to study a number of system designs - including rails underground and overhead.
