Commissioners reviewed correspondence received. Approval of Minutes Minutes of November 6, 2006 were reviewed.Motion made to approve the minutes as written, M/S Strauss/ Aydelott.Motion carried 4:0. Unfinished Business
a. Sesquicentennial Celebration Presentation by Nancy Oliver, appointed by the San Carlos Arts and Culture Commission to represent the City of San Carlos on this Countywide committee.Ms. Oliver reported on the successes of the countywide celebration, noting it was “a very exciting year”.Commissioners thanked Ms. Oliver for her work on this committee and for enhancing the involved of San Carlos in the countywide celebration. b.Draft Cultural Grant Criteria and Application Commissioners reviewed the draft documents.Discussion regarding intent and purpose of the grant to promote arts and culture in the San Carlos community. Commissioners requested setting a February Commission meeting to finalize the grant application. New Businessa.Holiday Homes on Parade Commissioners reviewed the intent of City co-sponsorship of this event.Discussion regarding the event committee transitioned from Arts and Culture Commission and community involvement to an event run by a local business.Commissioners complimented Intero professionals for their initiative and enthusiasm in taking on this event, but also noted conflict with the committee format and use of City resources for business sponsored activity.Commissioners also noted that though this event was a positive reflection on the City, it had not demonstrated meeting the Commission’s co-sponsorship criteria of increasing economic development and increased home decorations for cultural expression. Motion made to eliminate City co-sponsorship of Holiday Home Decorating contests.M/SStrauss/Mahar.Motion carried 4:0 b.Arts and Culture Achievement Award Commissioners discussed the value of this recognition and the need for clear criteria for nominations and awards.Commissioner Aydelott volunteered to draft criteria for the Commission to discuss at the February meeting. c.Display of Artwork from China Commissioners discussed artwork received from City of Zhang Jia Jie, China, which has entered a SisterCity relationship with the City of San Carlos.Motion made to display the artwork during the month of January/ February in the City Hall lobby and to discuss permanent display locations at the February meeting.M/S Aydelott/ Strauss.Motion carried 4:0. Committee Reports (informational)a.Sister Cities (Mahar) Commissioner Mahar reported on Sister Cities committee projects: ·Local speaker series in downtown to promote membership b.San CarlosMuseum (Mahar) Commissioner Mahar reported on Museum projects: - First facility rental to private party for Holiday Party was well received.Rental fees are comparable to other City facility rentals.
c.San Carlos Fine Arts Association (Hoffman) d.Artshare (Aguirre) Commissioner Aguirre reported on Artshare updates: - Organization name changed to Peninsula Arts Council, to provide clearer focus on geographical location served.
- February 22 fundraising event: “Arty-Gras”, at Redwood City Courthouse Rotunda, featuring dinner, dancing and silent auction.
f.Week of the Family (Strauss) No Report.Commission noted lack of information available to date. g.Concert Series (Aydelott) Commissioner Aydelott provided updates: - Committee is working on 2007 Series

- Several of 2006 concert sponsors have renewed for 2007 already
