About the Piece: “I was always intrigued by this gate whenever I drove onto San Carlos Avenue. On this sunny midafternoon, I noticed this beautiful shadow underneath the gate. As you see my interpretation is to represent San Carlos in an artistic way." About the Artist: Alvin Joe began painting in art school. After 35 years as a commercial artist, Alvin retired and resumed her interest in painting using acrylic and watercolor. Watercolor is her main medium. A member of the San Carlos Fine Arts Association since the late 1990’s, the association has inspired her to enter numerous local and national shows. Alvin is also a member of the California Watercolor Association and Watercolor West. Acquired April 2005.

About the Piece: The new library has been the subject of many paintings, but the view from this corner was most interesting to the painter. About the Artist: Richard Champley was born in 1922 and a resident of San Carlos for 42 years. After a career in music and retail, Richard has been enjoying the local art scene in San Carlos. His inspiration comes from surrounding himself with other exceptional local artists. Though he works in both watercolor and oil, Richard enjoys the challenge of watercolor.

With his distinctive beard and the essence of local gathering at a local coffee shop – reading, enjoying his coffee and the essence of life in San Carlos. About the Artist: Richard Champley was born in 1922 and a resident of San Carlos for 42 years. After a career in music and retail, Richard has been enjoying the local art scene in San Carlos. His inspiration comes from surrounding himself with other exceptional local artists. Though he works in both watercolor and oil, Richard enjoys the challenge of watercolor.
Title: Laurel Street Park Artist Name: Gwen Hofer Owner: City of San Carlos | 
| About the Piece: The painting of Laurel Street Park was to commemorate it’s opening. Though the park has blossomed and matured since then, it has a historical significance. About the Artist: Gwen Hofer has been a resident of San Carlos since 1963. She is a charter member of the San Carlos Fine Arts Association (since 1972) and member of the Society of Western Artists. She has earned well over 100 awards and her paintings are in many private and corporate collections. Although Gwen paints primarily in oils, she also paints in watercolor and pastels, and has an interest in calligraphy as well. Her travels throughout the US, Canada, Europe and the Middle East have provided her with a rich diversity in landscape subjects. Gwen also volunteers her artistic talents to the community by teaching arts and crafts to children through the San Carlos library and public schools.

Intrigued by the pergola at the entrance on this sunny mid-afternoon the beautiful shadow underneath the pergola served as inspiration. About the Artist: Alvin Joe began painting in art school. After 35 years as a commercial artist, Alvin retired and resumed interest in painting using acrylic and watercolor. A member of the San Carlos Fine Arts Association since the late 1990’s, the association has inspired Alvin to enter numerous local and national shows. Alvin is also a member of the California Watercolor Association and Watercolor West. Acquired September 2000.
