San Carlos Adult Community Center San Carlos, CA 94070 August 2, 2006 The regular meeting of the San Carlos Senior Advisory Board was called to order at 9:05 AM by Board Chair Gerry Cristoni. 1. Roll Call Board Members present: Gerry Cristoni, Julie Becker, and Kim Alchimisti
Board Members absent: Jack Fisher and Dan Bellack
Also present: Gerard Manuel, Recreation Supervisor Louise Della Maggiora, Sequoia Hospital
2. Changes to the Order of Agenda None 3. Approval of Minutes Board member Kim Alchimisti made the motion to approve the minutes of meeting June 7, 2006 and seconded by board member Julie Becker. Motion carried 3:0. 4. Correspondence Letter from Eleanor Canale expressing need for transportation to the older adult population. Board has asked that staff respond to Ms. Canale.5. Unfinished Business a) Update of Name Plate on Monument SignStaff approached Signworks for quote/cost of updating the monument sign at the center. As soon as the quote is received, staff will discuss the costs with Parks and Recreation Administration. Supervisor Manuel also discussed the idea of adding signage by the Parkview Room (A-Frame Signs) to market ACC to users at City Hall Park. Advisory Board Member Cristoni discussed moving the sign to better location for increased visibility. 6. New Business None. 7. Board Reports None. 8. Staff Reports a) Upcoming Events and Programs Supervisor Manuel shared information on the following ACC events - August Luncheon (August 18) – Broadway by the Bay
- August 29 – Kiwanis Social planned at the ACC
- Lecture – Maximizing your MemoryFree Lecture – August 25
- September – Review at the Parkview Room – Wine and Hors’Douevres Night with live entertainment. (Saturday event from 5-7 pm)
b) June and July Event Recap Supervisor Manuel provided a brief recap of June and July events including the Monthly Luncheon in July with an attendance of 90 and the June Luncheon was cancelled due to low ticket sales. Supervisor Manuel presented at the June Rotary Lunch (Guest Speaker) and shared that the San Carlos Rotary Club met at the ACC in June and is reviewing moving their future weekly meetings at the ACC. Supervisor Manuel shared that the ACC had a successful July Volunteer Fair with an attendance of over 30 prospective volunteers. The fair featured volunteer opportunities from the ACC, Healthy Cities Tutoring Program, Week of the Family, and the San Carlos Museum of History. Board member Alchimisti suggested inviting local business (ie. Nektar Therapeutics) to participate in ACC events such as the Monthly Luncheon to introduce programs and volunteer opportunities to their employees. Supervisor Manuel provided an update on the Monday Lunches and the efforts of the volunteers in maintaining the service for the community. The ACC is now printing a monthly menu featuring the lunch specials to the community. Supervisor Manuel also provided a brief update on the following: - Upgrade of the pastries in the lounge (which is donated daily by the new Starbuck’s on Laurel Street) and the introduction of fresh fruit daily.
- Changes in Bingo Operations - new games introduced and snacks are now provided to users. Board member Cristoni suggested posting a sign on the street marketing Bingo to the community.
- Game Club – a weekly drop in program has grown in attendance from 1 table (4-users) to 5 tables (20-25 users) since its introduction in January.
- Facility Review – Supervisor Manuel shared briefly on the staff’s efforts of reviewing how the facility is currently used and ideas of new potential programs that are being considered for the ACC.
