The regular meeting of the San Carlos Senior Advisory Board was called to order at 9:02 AM by Board Chair Gerry Cristoni.

1. Roll Call

Board Members present:

Gerry Cristoni, Julie Becker, Kim Alchimisti,Jack Fisher and Dan Bellack

Board Members absent:

None.

Also present:

Gerard Manuel, Recreation Supervisor, Donna Giampaoli Dillard, Recreation Superintendent, Louise DeLaMaggiora, Sequoia Hospital

2. Changes to the Order of the Agenda

None.

3.  Approval of Minutes

Board member Dan Bellack made the motion to approve the minutes of meeting April 5, 2006 and seconded by board member Kim Alchimisti. Motion carried 5:0.

4.  Correspondence

None.

5.  Unfinished Business

a) Second Adult Center Banner: Supervisor Manuel reported that the Friends of the San Carlos Senior Center approved the purchase of a secondary banner to be placed on the second floor balcony of the ACC. Board member Cristoni requested that a new name plate be purchased for the monument sign on the corner of Chestnut St. and San Carlos Ave. Board entered into discussion on types of marketing (Laurel Street Banner and on–site marketing) ACC should be utilizing to market its events/programs.


 

b) Marketing Plan Update – Review Draft of Trifold Brochure:

Supervisor Manuel shared draft copy of updated marketing brochure and results from the “Marketing Focus” Group (held on May 4, 2006). Feedback received from the focus group provided framework for the design of the new brochure. Board reviewed the draft, provided feedback for consideration and entered into a discussion on marketing the ACC to the community.

8. Staff Reports

a) Budget Information

Superintendent Dillard provided an update on the City budget and shared the potential budget reductions of the ACC including the facility closing at 4 pm instead of 5 pm and reduction of staff hours specific to the building assistant position. City Council is expected to vote on the budget at the June 26 council meeting. Board entered into a discussion of ideas on programs and opportunities for fundraising to address funding sources for the ACC.Superintendent Dillard also shared the department’s efforts in establishing Fund Development program for Parks and Recreation.

b) Upcoming Events and Programs

Supervisor Manuel shared information on the following June events:

  • Father’s Day Luncheon – June 16
  • San Carlos Rotary Club Lunch Meeting – June 23
  • Volunteer Recruitment Fair – July 18

c) April and May Event Recap

Supervisor Manuel shared updates on the Courier Layout and the new Menu for the Monday Lunch Program to the board. The May issue of the Courier debuted a new column, “Spotlight on Special San Carlos Citizens”, featuring stories on key members of the community. The menu for the Monday Lunch program featured meals for the month in an attempt to increase marketing of the service. The ACC has received positive feedback on both the Courier change and publication of the menu.

Supervisor Manuel provided a brief recap of April/May events including the success of the Volunteer Luncheon with an attendance of 140 and the May Mother’s Day Lunch had an attendance of 65. Supervisor Manuel shared staff’s efforts in working with Bingo Volunteer Committee in revamping Bingo to attract attendance.
