PG&E Venting - Edgewood Road - Oct 5th
Update # 9 - PG&E Natural Gas Venting - Edgewood Road - Oct. 5th
PG&E has informed the City of San Carlos that the venting of their Natural Gas lines on the afternoon of Monday, October 1st was succcessful.
Preparation for Safety Enhancement Projects
The PG&E venting on Monday cleared a large portion of the L-101 natural gas line in preparation for multiple pipeline safety enhancement projects that PG&E has planned from Woodside to Stanford.
On the afternoon of Friday, October 5th, PG&E will be clearing 25 additional miles of pipeline in preparation for these safety enhancement projects.
Work on Friday, October 5th
The PG&E venting on Friday will be at the same location as Monday – west of I-280, just north of Edgewood Road.
The main release is scheduled to begin between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. or after 6:30 p.m. so as to avoid the commute traffic time. It is expected to take between 2 and 3 hours.
In order to clear the lines completely of natural gas PG&E will be running air movers at several locations after the official venting.
Depending on the location of gas venting and weather patterns, there may be a smell of natural gas. PG&E wants to assure customers that this situation is safe. As part of our normal protocol, we have and will continue to notify the appropriate public safety agencies, businesses and residents of this work.
PG&E is working to avoid the impacts that were experienced on the September 26th. Should PG&E experience delays as they did on September 26th, they will conduct additional proactive outreach. This will include utilizing SMC Alert to inform customers as well as sending out robo-calls to over 30,000 customers.
PG&E does not expect that many customers to be impacted by noise and odor, but they are acting out of an abundance of caution.
For More Information
Safety is PG&E's top priority and while this is planned work, they encourage any resident who has questions or concerns about the smell of gas to call 24 hours a day at 1-800-743-5000 or call 9-1-1 immediately.
