Project Update An update on the proposed Wheeler Plaza Redevelopment will be given at the January 11th meeting of the Government Affairs Council. Community Development Director Al Savay and Economic Development & Housing Manager Mark Sawicki will be presenting the update. Everyone is invited to attend.
Wheeler Plaza Wheeler Plaza is a 2.4 acre site located at the southwest corner of San Carlos Avenue and Laurel Street. This City-owned parcel currently serves as a surface parking lot and includes four adjacent parcels – two retail buildings fronting San Carlos Avenue and one retail building fronting Laurel St. (formerly Foodville), as well as a rental housing building on the other side of the parking plaza.
Project Proposal The Wheeler Plaza project proposes to replace the existing surface parking and existing buildings with a new, mixed-use development featuring underground parking, ground level retail, and condominium housing above. The City's development partner, Silverstone Communities, has proposed a 108 unit residential building above a podium parking structure with new retail space on San Carlos Avenue.
