In August 2007, Council and Staff conducted a one day Strategic Planning Retreat that outlined
goals and objectives for a six month period. One of the three year goals from the workshop was
to maintain and enhance public safety.
Some discussion took place at the workshop centered on the level of knowledge Council had
with respect to the delivery of Police Services in the Community. It was felt that for a variety of
reasons there may be benefit from a more detailed review of police operations. Therefore, it
was decided that the Police Chief should prepare and present a report to the City Council on
Police Services and that the report should include the results of a recent benchmark study done
by the Department.
