Traffic Unit
The San Carlos Police Department Traffic Unit consists of two Officers and one Sergeant. The personnel assigned to this unit focus their efforts on addressing traffic related complaints and with the investigation of major injury accidents within the City. Officers use a variety measures to address these issues including enforcement, education, and innovative programs such as the Pace Car Program to help make San Carlos as safe as possible. Additionally, members of the Traffic Unit work with other City Departments and Commissions to address public concerns.
During 2003, the Traffic Unit assisted with researching and implementing Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) grants to provide increased enforcement in the area of seat belt use and DUI. Seat belt strike teams and DUI strike teams were fielded several times during the year with the goal of increasing compliance and reducing injuries.
