| | DepartmentsBuckle Up in San Mateo CountyWhen driving through San Mateo County, make sure to buckle up. The California Highway Patrol, San Mateo County Sheriff and the county’s police chiefs are working together to encourage motorists to strap on their safety belts. The collaborative program is the first in the state to combine regional law enforcement efforts toward seat belt compliance.
The officers from the different jurisdictions will be patrolling city streets and highways with a sharp eye out for unrestrained drivers and passengers.
The program will be financed by a two year grant from the Office of Traffic Safety. In California, 91.1% of motorists comply with seat belt laws.
The CHP also recently launched a three million dollar advertising campaign that sends the same message statewide.
