Workshop 4: Nov. 2 Notes

Workshop Summary | Get Involved | Review the Process | See the Vision | Read the Guidelines

On November 2, approximately 70 people attended the fourth community workshop of the San Carlos Downtown Visualization Project. The workshop was held in the Library, at 610 Elm Street. The main goals of this workshop were to:

  • introduce and review the purpose and proposed format of urban design guidelines and,
  • comment on some of the projects that are in various stages of development in downtown, using the 3-D computer model as a visualization tool.

Interactive Exercise: Where Do You Live?

After people registered, they were asked to find their house on a large map and place a tiny dark blue dot sticker on it. This showed instantly both the geographic distribution of participants as well as whether this was the first, second, or third meeting that participants attended. At each workshop, participants will locate their houses with a different color dot, so that the workshop attendance can be tracked over time.

Tom Richman gave a brief overview of the visualization process and the goals. Read more about the process of developing the Design Guidelines

Current Development Projects

Tom then presented a conceptual summary of two currently proposed development projects in various stages of consideration: the Southeast Corner of Walnut St. and San Carlos Ave., including Wheeler Plaza and Imagine Foods, and the Railroad Property right-of-way. The meeting adjourned at approximately 9:10 p.m.
