Project Summary In 2016, community concerns about tearing down older homes and replacing them with larger homes rose to a level that resulted in City Council taking action and directing staff to address zoning regulations that affect house size. To address this issue, staff from the Planning Division will be working with consultants from Opticos Design, Inc. to engage the community in a series of discussions about new single-family development in the RS-6 Zoning District. Citywide community workshops will be scheduled throughout 2017 and the project is scheduled to conclude in Spring 2018.
SINGLE-FAMILY HOUSE ADVISORY COMMITTEE (SHAC)
The City Council has selected members of the community to participate in an ad hoc working group to work closely with staff and the consultant team. The SHAC’s charge is to examine the various issues concerning house size and neighborhood fit and lead to changes in some of the rules and regulations within the RS-6 Single-Family Zoning District. The SHAC broadly represents interests of residents, architects, builders and realtors who are familiar with San Carlos’ residential neighborhoods.
