| Parks & Recreation eNewsletter – April 2012 Smart Tots Preschool Programs – Open House April 11th & 12th San Carlos Smart Tot programs are hosting an Open House for families looking to begin a preschool program! Laureola Cottage Kids Pre-K open house will be held at Laureola Park, 503 Old County Road, on Wednesday, April 11th from 7:00-8:00pm. Bright Beginnings Preschool open house will be held at the Youth Center, located at 1001 Chestnut Street, on Thursday, April 12th from 7:00-8:00pm. San Carlos will be hosting a Volunteer Expo on Saturday, April 14th from 10:00am-12:00pm at the Adult Community Center, located at 601 Chestnut Street. Various organizations from the area will be on hand to answer questions and provide information on where you can volunteer in your community. EmpowerFIT Boot Camp 6:30AM Class begins April 16th at Burton Park EmpowerFIT’s team-oriented conditioning approach to fitness training is designed to inspire, encourage and challenge you to reach your health and fitness goals. In addition to helping you strengthen, tone, and increase your cardio fitness, our boot camp workouts are designed to build your confidence and boost your well-being - no matter what your age or fitness level. We offer a variety of membership options. San Carlos EmpowerFIT Boot Camp class is currently offered daily from 5:30-6:30am. AARP Tax Assistance - Thursdays AARP volunteers will once again be at the San Carlos Adult Community Center every Thursday through April 12, 2012 for preparation and electronic filing of Federal and California tax returns for low and moderate income taxpayers with special attention to people age 60 or older. This service is free and AARP membership is not required. Appointments are mandatory and may be made between the hours of 9am and 4pm by calling the Adult Community Center at 650-802-4384. Pedro Tournament at the Adult Community Center April 21st Join the Adult Community Center for a delicious lunch at noon, followed by the Pedro Tournament which begins at 1pm sharp. You must be 18 years or older and know how to play. Space is limited and the tournament fills up! Register early by calling the Adult Community Center at 650-802-4384. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Adult Community Center. Battle of the Bands April 27th On Friday, April 27th from 6:30-9:00pm the San Carlos Youth Advisory council in partnership with the San Carlos Youth Center will be hosting, “Battle of the Bands”! Battle of the Bands provides local high school bands an opportunity to showcase their talent on the stage in front of their peers. This will be a fun, safe and exciting night of the best of High School Bands the peninsula has to offer. Tickets will be sold for $7 at the door starting at 6:00pm. The event is open to 10-17 year olds. The San Carlos Youth Center is located at 1001 Chestnut Street, San Carlos in the heart of Burton Park. San Carlos Citywide Volunteer Day Saturday, April 28th Join San Carlos and be part of the first Citywide Volunteer Day! Multiple opportunities will be available around San Carlos including Community Clean Ups at your local park, Tree Planting, Picnic Table Restoration, Child Safety Day, and many more!
