What is homesteading or homestead exemption? I understand that I can have my home declared as a homestead with the County Recorder. Would you mind directing me to the appropriate department to help me with this?
Homestead exemption is a designed to protect the value of the homes of residents from bankruptcy, creditors, and circumstances arising from the death of the homeowner spouse or even a major lawsuit. Your house cannot be "taken" from you as collateral. Recording with the county is reccommended. Laws enacting such protections are found in state statutes or constitutional provisions which exist in many states in the United States.
