Just Cause Evictions
The San Carlos City Council has passed an Urgency Ordinance to protect tenants from evictions without just cause between October 8 and December 31, 2019.
The passage of this "just cause" Eviction Protection Ordinance comes in response to California Assembly Bill 1482 (AB 1482), the "Tenant Protection Act of 2019," which will establish state-wide rental protections effective January 1, 2020.
The San Carlos Urgency Ordinance immediately establishes essentially the same protections as AB 1482 within San Carlos. The San Carlos Ordinance prohibits an owner of residential property (with specific exceptions) from terminating a tenancy without just cause.
