Automated Solar Permitting with SolarApp+

San Carlos offers automated permitting for eligible new residential rooftop solar projects through SolarAPP+. To see which systems are eligible, please refer to the Eligibility Checklist. Only projects that conform to this list may apply for a permit through SolarAPP+.

Submit for automated review through SolarAPP+

  1. Confirm that you have an active San Carlos Business License prior to applying. 
  2. If new to SolarAPP+, create and account and register as an installer on SolarAPP+.
  3. Create a new project and include all necessary information.
  4. Submit the application and pay the permit fee and any additional fees.
  5. Download the Inspection Checklist to be reviewed during the inspection.

Schedule Inspection

  • After the application has been submitted through SolarAPP+, you will receive an email from building@cityofsancarlos.org with a permit # (typically within 1-2 business days).
  • Follow the directions in the email to schedule an inspection.

Commercial and Other Solar Permitting

For commercial and other solar projects that are not eligible for automated permitting must apply for a solar permit following process:
  1. Confirm that you have an active San Carlos Business License prior to applying. 
  2. Fill out a permit application form.
  3. Submit the permit application via email to building@cityofsancarlos.org along with an 11-by-17-inch PDF set of the plans.
