Matt Grocott was born and raised in northeast Ohio, where he attended and graduated from Western Reserve Academy in Hudson. His college career began at the University of Florida in Gainesville. As a college wrestler, Matt chose to transfer to Clemson University in South Carolina when Florida dropped its wrestling program. Majoring in architecture, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in design from Clemson.

After moving to California, Mr. Grocott began living in San Carlos in 1987 and bought his first home in the city in 1995. He owns and operates Grocott Design – Home & Remodel, specializing in the design of residential projects, most of which are remodels and additions. As a member of the American Institute of Building Design, Matt served as president of the Golden Gate Chapter for four years. He also participated with numerous other volunteer organizations and served as a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church, San Mateo.

First elected to the San Carlos City Council in 2001, Matt was reelected in 2005, 2009 and 2013; during his tenure he has been San Carlos Mayor twice.

In his spare time, Matt enjoys traveling locally with his wife and son, reading biographies or historical novels, cycling and catching the home wrestling meets at Stanford University.
