Information Before You Apply for a Building Permit

Before you apply for a building permit, there is information you should know:

  1. Know what type of permit you need.

  4. Review the types of building permits available online below to determine if you can apply for the permit you need online.
  5. If you can apply for the permit online, proceed to Apply for a Building Permit. See the full list below of permits you can pull online.
  6. If you cannot apply for the permit online, you can:
    • Email the Building Division at to submit your application and plans or to ask questions about the permitting process. You can also reach us by phone at (650) 802-4261.
    • The Building Division will hold open counter hours Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. by appointment only. Please email to schedule an appointment.
